Odisha ended their Ranji Trophy campaign at the quarterfinal stage, where they were held to a draw by Bengal at DRIEMS Ground, Tangi, nere here today. Bengal, however, advanced to the semifinals by taking first-innings lead in the five-day match.
Put into bat, Bengal were reduced to 46 for five before a majestic century by Anustup Majumdar (157) and his 171-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Shahbaz Ahmed (82) enabled them make a healthy total of 332.
In reply, Odisha were bowled out for 250, thanks to a half-century each by Shantanu Mishra and Debasish Samantray. After taking a 82-run lead in the first innings, Bengal further consolidated their position by mustering 373 in the second essay.
When the match ended in a draw, Odisha were 39 for no loss in the second innings. Anustup Majumdar was adjudged the Player of the Match. Pace bowler Preet Kanwar Singh Chohan made first-class debut for Odisha in this match.
